Barbies to blingsling®

Hey Clevergirls!

Thanks for all your support as Clever Designs LA made our way through our first few holiday markets!  It was such a pleasure to meet all of you, talk travel and swap stories.  All the holiday spirit left me feeling warm and nostalgic. It reminded me that for as long as I can remember, I wanted to be an entrepreneur.  Even as a little kid, I’d line up my Barbies and stuffed animals to sell and trade with my sister, using Monopoly money to make it official of course.

Now that the blingsling has launched, I realize owning a business is so much more than exchanging goods.  It’s building relationships, a team and a community.  It’s taking time and consideration into making quality goods for those people. And it’s knowing how important it is to partner with the right people and vendors that align with your vision and values.

It was refreshing to meet market partners and vendors who shared a similar vision focused on kindness and integrity.  And getting to talk with the market guests who shared our passion for ethical business was even more than I could have asked for.  I realized that even if our good decisions may seem small and insignificant individually, if we all continue to make them and build from them together we can actually start to make change.

Even if it’s unintentional, your support of local markets is helping your community and affecting that business owner directly.  For CDLA, the support is passed on to the team meticulously assembling the blingslings and perfectly lining up the magnets for a long-lasting product.  Your support goes even further by reaching the girls and women of Step Up Women’s Network who are driving the female empowerment movement.

Participating in the markets this month was the perfect way to connect with other business owners, partners and customers that share the same ideals.  It also made Los Angeles feel more like the small town where I played “store” with my Barbies.  And that connection with others was awesome.  It may be naive, but with the divisive rhetoric we hear around us every day, having a little bit of hope for the future can’t be bad, right?!

Thanks to everyone at the market who listened to each of our stories (especially the lengthy startup story I was telling about the blingsling :-)) and continue to make informed purchases. And power to all of you who are putting your childhood ideas and dreams into action! We're not going to change the world overnight, but if each of us changes just one behavior, we can start seeing progress. It’ll be worth it gals! Let’s do this!

Love. Inspire. Grow. Enjoy.
